Square Enix’s highly anticipated game, Final Fantasy XVI, is on the cusp of shedding its PlayStation 5 exclusivity. In a significant development, the renowned gaming company has officially announced the commencement of a PC port for the game.

This revelation may not come as a complete surprise, given that the initial trailer for the game back in 2020 had hinted at a potential PC version. Interestingly, Square Enix had momentarily backtracked on that tidbit, but now, it’s back on the table.

In a recent video shared on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter), the game’s producer, Naoki Yoshida, disclosed that his team is actively engaged in crafting a PC edition of Final Fantasy XVI. Furthermore, Yoshida revealed Square Enix’s ambitious plans to expand the game’s universe.

He commented, “One resounding sentiment from our audience was their eagerness to delve deeper into Valisthea’s narrative and spend more time among its denizens. To fulfill this desire, the development team has embarked on the creation of two premium downloadable content packages.”

While the precise release dates for these expansions and the PC version remain shrouded in mystery, Yoshida expressed his intent to provide a comprehensive update by the conclusion of 2023.

Notably, Square Enix had recently disclosed that Final Fantasy XIV, their enduringly beloved massively multiplayer online game, is set to make its long-awaited debut on Xbox next spring, following years of exclusive availability on PlayStation and PC.

The prospect of Final Fantasy XVI following suit in adopting a cross-platform approach has certainly captured the imagination of fans.

In the interim, Yoshida had another exciting announcement in store for PlayStation 5 players. A complimentary update has been unveiled, introducing an array of enticing features. These include additional character skins, an intriguingly named “onion sword,” expanded controller customization options, and the implementation of a transmogrification function.

This new feature permits players to alter the appearance of Clive’s sword to match any other blade in their inventory, all without impacting the weapon’s statistics. The update is available for immediate download, enhancing the gameplay experience for enthusiasts.
