Google incorporates first-gen indoor Nest Cam into home app

During its annual I/O developer conference earlier this year, Google revealed that users would soon have the option to shift their first-generation Nest Cam Indoor and Nest Cam Outdoor devices from the old Nest app to the new Home application.

Now, the time has arrived, at least for the indoor camera. Google has initiated the rollout of this capability through the public preview version of its Home app. This process will take a few weeks to reach all users.

In the past, Nest cameras had their own dedicated application before Google’s acquisition of the company. Gradually, Google integrated support for its entire range of smart home products into the Home app. However, owners of the oldest Nest cameras had to stick with the original app to manage their devices.

With this new update, as long as users are using the public preview, they will be able to access their first-generation Nest Cam Indoor device via the Home app.

This update brings an enhanced camera history experience. Users will also have the option to add the camera to their Favorites tab, ensuring that its feed appears immediately upon opening the app.
