  • This commitment is evident through the introduction of various enhancements, such as a script editor, integration with Nest Cam Indoor, and most recently, an extensive array of fresh routines for users to utilize.
  • For instance, it is now feasible to configure the thermostat to automatically switch off when a window is opened, or to have the lights dim and the fireplace illuminate upon pausing a show.
  • Novel actions encompass possibilities such as gradually illuminating the lights following the dismissal of an alarm, creating a pulsating effect with the room lights, or halting the vacuum operation upon the ringing of the doorbell.
  • Thereafter, when the routine is desired, a simple voice command to Google suffices to initiate the process, akin to how one would command any other task to a Google device.

Google has demonstrated a strong commitment to embracing automation ever since the launch of its revamped Home application in May.

This commitment is evident through the introduction of various enhancements, such as a script editor, integration with Nest Cam Indoor, and most recently, an extensive array of fresh routines for users to utilize.

The company has unveiled a collection of 18 new routines, evenly split between initial actions and subsequent actions, and these are now readily accessible to Google Home users.

The initial actions, referred to as “starters,” empower users to trigger or deactivate specific functions in response to the status of another device. For instance, it is now feasible to configure the thermostat to automatically switch off when a window is opened, or to have the lights dim and the fireplace illuminate upon pausing a show.

Conversely, the subsequent actions, known as “actions,” are typically triggered by the user or another individual. Novel actions encompass possibilities such as gradually illuminating the lights following the dismissal of an alarm, creating a pulsating effect with the room lights, or halting the vacuum operation upon the ringing of the doorbell.

A comprehensive list of the newly introduced routines can be perused on Google’s Nest Community blog. These fresh routines, along with the pre-existing ones, can be managed through the Routines icon within the Google Home app.

Users can designate the type of routine – whether household-oriented or personal – and assign a suitable name. Thereafter, when the routine is desired, a simple voice command to Google suffices to initiate the process, akin to how one would command any other task to a Google device.

Furthermore, Google has expanded the offerings in its script editor’s public preview phase. This expansion encompasses inventive applications, such as utilizing cameras as triggers.

This allows for scenarios like playing soothing music when a dog comes into view, or activating lights when a family member arrives home. However, users also retain the option to temporarily suppress these triggers if they prove unhelpful.

Moreover, the upgraded features enable the implementation of customized notifications, like receiving a text notification when specific family members arrive home safely, or when an appliance is inadvertently left turned on.
