Telegram, the popular messaging app that boasts over 500 million active users, has announced that its Stories feature is now available to all users, regardless of whether they have a paid subscription or not. Stories, which are short videos or photos that disappear after 24 hours, were previously exclusive to Telegram X, a paid version of the app that offers more features and customization options.

Telegram X was launched in January 2021 as a way to monetize the app and support its development, as well as to provide a more experimental and advanced platform for users who wanted more control over their messaging experience.

Telegram X users could access Stories by swiping left on the main screen, and could also view the Stories of their contacts and channels they followed. Telegram X also allowed users to create group Stories, where multiple members of a chat could contribute to a shared Story.

However, Company founder and CEO Pavel Durov announced on his official Telegram channel that Stories are now free for everyone, and that Telegram X will be discontinued in the near future. He explained that the decision was made after receiving feedback from users who wanted to enjoy the benefits of both Telegram and Telegram X, without having to switch between two apps or pay for a subscription.

“We realized that we can offer the best of both worlds by merging Telegram and Telegram X into one app, and making all the features available to everyone for free,” Durov wrote. “This way, we can focus our resources on developing new and exciting features for our entire user base, rather than maintaining two separate apps.”

Durov also added that Stories are just one of the many features that will be transferred from Telegram X to Telegram in the coming weeks and months. He said that some of the other features include:

  • A redesigned interface with more themes and customization options
  • A faster and smoother performance with less battery consumption
  • A more secure and private encryption system with self-destructing messages and secret chats
  • A more interactive and fun experience with animated stickers, voice chats, video calls, and games
  • A more powerful and versatile platform with bots, channels, groups, and media editing tools

Durov thanked the Telegram X users for their support and feedback, and assured them that they will not lose any of their data or settings when they switch to Telegram. He also invited them to join his channel and share their opinions and suggestions on how to improve Telegram further.

Telegram Stories are now live on both iOS and Android devices, and can be accessed by swiping left on the main screen. Users can also tap on their profile picture or any of their contacts’ pictures to view their Stories.

Users can create their own Stories by tapping on the camera icon on the bottom right corner of the screen, and can add text, stickers, filters, or music to their Stories. Users can also delete their Stories at any time, or adjust their privacy settings to choose who can see them.

Telegram is one of the most popular messaging apps in the world, especially in regions where other apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are banned or restricted.

Telegram is known for its emphasis on security, privacy, and freedom of expression, as well as its constant innovation and development of new features. With the addition of Stories, Telegram hopes to attract more users and compete with other social media platforms like Instagram or Snapchat.
