Another Ubisoft studio is now helping to develop the much-anticipated Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. Ubisoft Toronto announced on X/Twitter that it is joining forces with Ubisoft Montreal to work on the game.

This collaboration comes after Ubisoft Montreal took over the project from Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai in 2022. The handover occurred just days before the game’s original target release date, which had been as early as January 2021. At that time, Ubisoft Montreal stated it was “building upon the work achieved” by its Indian studios.

However, in an interview last year, producer Jean-Francois Naud revealed that the project was still “in conception.” He mentioned that the team was “looking at feedback from the community and finding its own way of delivering the game.” Ubisoft Montreal, known as the birthplace of the original Sands of Time trilogy, seemed like a fitting choice to helm the project.

The original Sands of Time was a reboot of the Prince of Persia series created by Jordan Mechner for PC games. Ubisoft Montreal also developed several titles in the Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six series, along with most of the Assassin’s Creed games.

Ubisoft Toronto has an impressive track record as well, having developed Far Cry 5 and 6, and Watch Dogs: Legion. The studio is currently working on a Splinter Cell remake, which is being rebuilt from the ground up using Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine.

The addition of Ubisoft Toronto to the development team suggests that Ubisoft is committing substantial resources to ensure the success of the Sands of Time Remake.

Despite this renewed effort, there is still no new release date for the game. Fans of the series will have to wait a bit longer to see how these combined efforts will bring the beloved classic back to life.
